چکیده

unlike the languages we know, some of the arabic sentences form without any verbs. arab grammarians call these sentences, which contain a subject and a predicate without any linking verbs, nominal sentences. examining theses sentences indicates that their predicate is composed of one of the following words or structures: 1. noun, 2. prepositional phrase, 3. an adverb of time or place, 4. a nominal sentence, 5. a sentence with a gerund as the subject or the object. typically, understanding and in turn teaching these sentences to language learners, who know the verb as the main part of a sentence, is difficult. the first arab grammarians, most of whom were persian descent, considered an omitted verb or noun as the linking verb of these sentences. the researcher extracted all of these sentences, more than five thousand sentences, from quran and other arabic texts such as nahjul balagha in an expanded study. after examining and categorizing the sentences, the researcher concluded grammarians proposed the idea of necessity of a special verb or noun as the linking verb of these sentences and believed that there always is an omitted verb in them.  grammarians proposed this because the structure of their mother tongue, persian, or greek logic, expressing each sentence has three pillars (main elements) including subject, predicate and the conjunctive, influenced them. however, considering the structure of these sentences, we find out that arab speakers differentiate these sentences only by paying attention to their structure and composition because the arab speakers who never studied grammar and know nothing about it, can easily recognize these sentences from other arabic structures; it never comes to their mind to consider a verb as the link between the subject and predicate. therefore, following this viewpoint, these sentences can be categorized based on their structure and taught to non-arab speakers according to the kind of their grammatical structures.
